About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to help manage complex day-to-day accounting operations - including journal entries, reconciliations, close processes, and financial reporting - for Dean Dorton's internal finance team. It also serves as a technical resource and process improvement driver, supporting leadership with audits, budgeting, and cross-functional collaboration across payroll, billing, and AR.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The essential duties & responsibilities of the Senior Accountant role are outlined below in correlation with Dean Dorton's performance management impact areas.
Technical
Definition: your specialized knowledge & expertise associated with the work you perform for/with clients (note: clients may be internal to Dean Dorton).
- Own complex general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and detailed account analyses.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes in coordination with the Controller.
- Ensure accurate application of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support payroll, billing, and accounts receivable processes through review, reconciliation, and issue resolution.
- Maintain and review fixed asset accounting, accruals, and other key balance sheet accounts.
- Assist the Director with payroll budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
- Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audit requests.
- Identify accounting issues, assess risk, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Identify and Implement accounting-related system enhancements and process improvements.
- Serve as a technical accounting resource for Internal Accounting team members.
- Support and finish new projects as needed.
- Experience using or adapting to AI-enabled tools and technologies to support standard financial responsibilities, streamline processes, and improve accuracy in accounting.

- Participate in training, professional development, and continuing education.
- Contribute to documentation and standardization of accounting processes.
- Support onboarding and mentoring of accounting team members.
- Assist with firm-wide initiatives related to systems, controls, or financial reporting.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in an internal accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control practices.
- Experience supporting financial reporting and audit processes.
- Professional services or multi-entity experience preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Software & Tools
- Accounting systems such as Sage Intacct or similar.
- Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel proficiency.
- Payroll, billing, and expense management platforms.
- Financial reporting and reconciliation tools.
Travel
This position may travel to Dean Dorton offices for training or meetings.
