Job Title: Director of LaboratoryLocation: Ottumwa, IAEmployment Type: Full-TimeWork Model: Onsite (must report to facility)Travel: Not requiredVisa Sponsorship: Not availableWe are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Laboratory to lead laboratory operations in Ottumwa, IA. This role is responsible for overseeing all clinical laboratory functions, ensuring high-quality diagnostic services, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the clinical laboratory
- Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of laboratory testing services
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and quality control programs
- Manage laboratory staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to support patient care
- Monitor budgets, resource allocation, and operational efficiency
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and ensure patient safety standards
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
- Degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific discipline
- Strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
- Experience in hospital or reference laboratory settings (preferred/strongly desired)
- Master's degree (MBA, MA/MS in scientific discipline preferred)
- Prior Director-level leadership experience
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory compliance
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder management
- Ability to drive operational efficiency and quality improvement
- Decision-making under pressure
- BA/BS in Medical Technology or scientific discipline (required)
- Master's degree (preferred)
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Hospital / Clinical Laboratory setting
- Onsite role (no remote work)
- High-pressure, fast-paced healthcare environment
