New joiners will enjoy a highly empowered and impactful team working across the entire product lifecycle.The NPI Delivery Shells/Casings Mechanical Design Engineer within the Steam Turbine team is responsible for designing the High and Intermediate Pressure Casings which enable world-class performance and reliability. This is a critical role requiring both system level knowledge of turbomachinery safety and detailed mechanical component expertise to design the critical stationary component within the turbine.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute, with minimal guidance, the analysis, design, test and/or integration related to assigned components, assemblies or process systems that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and meet the product/program requirements for New Product Introduction (NPI), Order-to-Requisition (OTR), and Readiness-to-Serve (RTS) activities for new units and aftermarket services    

  • Document technical data generated to substantiate the assigned components, assemblies and/or systems consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Collaborate with global & cross-functional team of internal Steam Turbine Engineers and external stakeholders (Product Definition/Global Supply Chain) enabling & fostering mutual technical growth and delivering for our customers

  • Lead the solution of complex technical problems to ensure robust designs that meet all required CTQs- conduct assessments and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems

  • Utilize Lean tools to improve current business products and processes

  • Concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring and communicate progress and quality, and ensuring schedule requirements are met

  • Implement innovative analysis design, development concepts, or process and system solutions, while taking manufacturing technology, productivity and quality into consideration

  • Follow rigorous NPI Tollgate Process from Conceptual Design thrufield validation for all high-pressure shells and casing component designs across the full spectrum of Gas Power turbine configurations

  • Design for EHS/Safety and demonstrate safety skillsets in support of manufacturing and field activities, i.e. lifting and transportation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline OR equivalent knowledge and experience

  • Some experience in designing turbomachinery components

  • Demonstrated excellence applying fundamentals of Mechanical Design, including material properties, statics, strength of materials, fluid dynamics, lifing methods related to fatigue and creep

  • In case of being a GEV QTC employee, you must currently occupy the same sub-level or one prior as the proposed sub-level for this position.

Desired Characteristics

  • Finite Element Analysis and/or CFD capability

  • Advanced Engineering Degree

  • Experience in Steam Turbine component design, including ST stationary components, Shells, Valves, LP Hoods and Bearing Pedestals designs, design process & procedures

  • Demonstrated clear thinker, with ability to manage conflict and derive solutions to complicated problems

  • Demonstrated Project leadership skills with the mindset to handle several competing tasks

  • Familiarity with the full manufacturing process including: casting, fabrication, machining, and factory assembly/ testing practices, specifically as applied to power generation equipment

  • Tools/software knowledge: NX, ANSYS, microsoft business tools (word, excel, etc)

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
