Lecturer of Physics and Physical Sciences

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Frostburg State University seeks applications for a full-time, contractual, non-tenure-track Lecturer of Physics and Physical Sciences. This position is available to begin in Fall 2026 for the main campus in Frostburg, Maryland. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. University System of Maryland benefits package included.

The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences is situated in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences. The Department administers undergraduate degree programs in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geography, Earth Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. Our students are geographically and culturally diverse, and the Department is committed to increasing the diversity of perspectives and experiences in our community of educators and learners. Resources include computer-based teaching labs, experimental/research labs, and an extensive collection of physics equipment and technology, including a multimedia learning center/planetarium.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach introductory physics courses/labs and upper-level courses/labs depending on their area of specialization and will have the potential to develop courses in their area of expertise. Advising and mentoring students is performed by all faculty.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Physics. The candidate should have an effective teaching style, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work cordially and collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in physics and physical science courses at a university or college. Experience in mentoring diverse undergraduate students with varying levels of academic preparation. Experience in mentoring undergraduate research students.
