In December 2024, United Engineers and Constructors was acquired by Aecon Group Inc. Aecon and United have a proven working relationship and the United team continues to operate in the market as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.

We are seeking a Design Manager with multidiscipline design and major project execution experience in the conventional power generation market. The Design Manager will help manage a multidiscipline group of designers, company design tools, workload, and distributing work assignments to most effectively utilize staff and meet project established schedules and budgets.

What You'll Do Here

  • The successful candidate will develop and manage complex engineering design projects for power generation facilities.
  • Assign work, meets project schedules, ensures that all drawings are accurate, and coordinates assignments within the discipline groups working on the project.
  • Provides technical guidance, assistance, training and encouragement to all members of the design team.
  • In conjunction with Chief Discipline Engineers, Supervising Discipline Engineers and Project Engineering Managers, keeps management apprised of all manpower requirements and staffing problems.
  • Advises the project management team about status of assignment(s) with respect to schedule, budgets, delays, and adverse problems.
  • Ensure that designs are consistent with project technical requirements and project scope.
  • Reviews and checks completed engineering designs and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications and discipline-associated written and verbal instructions, and in accordance with design codes, standards, and procedures established by the Supervising Discipline Engineers.
  • Reviews and "release for use" vendor documents, leads inter-discipline reviews, resolves discrepancies, and consolidates comments.
  • Ensures quality, quantity, and completeness of the assigned design tasks.
  • Oversees preparation of drawings, layouts, and 3D models.
  • Understands and leads the planning and scheduling of design tasks associated with assigned project.
  • Fully understands and utilizes the capabilities, applications, and operations of computer software associated with design assignments and provides direction and guidance to others.
  • Acts with integrity in all elements of responsibility.
  • Presents information and ideas clearly and listens effectively to the ideas of others.
  • Develops and conduct technical training seminars.
  • Fully understands the use of requisitions and the role of materials management and can review/advise on purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Supports alignment of customer and company objectives.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Education: Associate's degree in design or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: a minimum of 16 years of experience, with at least 7 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Capability with 2D and 3D power plant design capability
  • Expert capability with AutoDesk Plant 3D, Revit and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Experience with Hexagon's Smart 3D, and Bentley MicroStation
  • Nuclear design experience is a plus!

Salary Range & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $170,000.00 -- $190,000.00 annually
