About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life

This OB/GYN Nocturnist role offers the opportunity to practice full-spectrum inpatient obstetrics and gynecology in a collaborative hospital-based setting without the demands of outpatient clinic management. Physicians in this role focus entirely on inpatient care, including labor management, OB triage, emergency gynecologic evaluation, cesarean delivery, and postpartum care.

During a typical shift, you will evaluate obstetric patients in OB triage/OBED, manage active labor patients, perform vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections, and provide consultative support for both pregnant and nonpregnant gynecologic patients presenting through the emergency department or inpatient units. The role also includes emergency gynecologic procedures such as treatment of ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion, and incomplete abortion when clinically indicated.

This position is ideal for physicians who enjoy acute care medicine, decisive clinical work, procedural variety, and the pace of hospital-based obstetrics. You will work closely with nursing staff, hospital teams, specialists, and leadership while maintaining autonomy in patient management and clinical decision-making.

Because the role is exclusively inpatient, physicians can focus fully on patient care during shifts without the administrative burden of maintaining an office practice or outpatient panel.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Fully inpatient-focused OB/GYN role with no clinic responsibilities
  • Predictable nocturnist schedule with concentrated shift structure
  • No RVU or productivity pressure
  • Broad clinical scope including labor management, deliveries, C-sections, and emergency gynecologic surgery
  • Level II facility with NICU support and established hospital infrastructure
  • Opportunity to work independently while collaborating closely with experienced inpatient teams

What We’re Looking For

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified OB/GYN physician
  • Strong inpatient obstetric and gynecologic clinical skills
  • Comfortable managing emergent and high-acuity situations independently
  • Team-oriented physician with strong communication skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care
  • Physician who thrives in a fast-paced hospital environment

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage patients presenting to OB triage/OBED
  • Provide inpatient obstetric and gynecologic care
  • Manage laboring patients and perform vaginal deliveries
  • Perform cesarean sections as clinically indicated
  • Complete inpatient and emergency department OB/GYN consults
  • Round on hospitalized obstetric and gynecologic patients
  • Perform emergency gynecologic surgical procedures when necessary
  • Conduct limited bedside obstetrical ultrasounds as appropriate
  • Provide postpartum evaluation and management
  • Develop and implement patient care plans
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant medical documentation
  • Coordinate referrals, consultations, prescriptions, and follow-up care as needed

Required Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited OB/GYN residency
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified through ABOG or ACOOG
  • Active Arizona medical license or ability to obtain licensure
  • Current DEA registration
  • Completion of annual CME requirements

Preferred Background

  • 1–2 years of OB/GYN experience preferred
  • Prior inpatient or laborist/nocturnist experience preferred
  • Experience working in hospital-based obstetric emergency settings
  • Comfort with emergency gynecologic surgical procedures

This Role Is Likely a Fit If You…

  • Prefer inpatient medicine over outpatient clinic practice
  • Enjoy the pace and acuity of hospital-based obstetrics
  • Want a focused nocturnist schedule with defined shifts
  • Value procedural variety and autonomous clinical decision-making
  • Thrive in collaborative hospital environments
  • Appreciate a compensation model without productivity pressure

This Role May Not Be a Fit If You…

  • Prefer continuity outpatient care or building a clinic panel
  • Want a traditional daytime OB/GYN schedule
  • Prefer highly subspecialized practice settings
  • Are uncomfortable managing obstetric emergencies independently
  • Prefer low-acuity or non-procedural practice environments

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • $200 bi-weekly wellness credit
  • FTCA malpractice coverage
  • PTO: 2 weeks annually
