Summary of Position

We're seeking an experienced Senior Data Architect & Engineer to build and support our data platform strategy and implementation, combining deep technical expertise and hands-on development (roughly 30% architecture leadership and 70% hands-on development). In this role, you'll oversee database modeling and design, master data management, and analytical engineering initiatives. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining best practices for data modeling, rapid development, and ongoing deployment of maintainable, well-tested data pipelines and reusable transformation code. The ideal candidate brings a comprehensive understanding of modern data architectures, agile methodologies, and enterprise data management principles.

  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, including data models, system integrations, and technical specifications using various methodologies (e.g. Kimball, Data Vault).
  • Conduct thorough code reviews of pull requests, ensuring adherence to architectural standards, performance best practices, and security requirements across all layers of the data platform.
  • Lead technical discussions and provide recommendations for architectural improvements, focusing on containerization strategies, event-driven architectures, and modern design patterns such as a data lakehouse architecture.
  • Define and enforce CI/CD practices, version control standards, automated testing, and observability for data pipelines.
  • Provide technical mentorship to team members, offering guidance on data modeling, ETL development, and best practices while promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to define and deliver domain-oriented data products with clear SLAs and ownership.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and, as part of a rotating team responsibility, facilitate standups and sprint meetings.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related role.
  • Proven experience with Snowflake, Microsoft Azure (ADLS, Azure Container Apps, Functions, Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, Event Hub), Apache Iceberg, Apache Airflow, dbt, Python, and Power BI.
  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
