Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required, and applicants must be at least 21 years old.

Previous experience working with children preferred

CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe)

Basic knowledge of early childhood development principles

Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with staff

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The TLC Assistant supports the TLC Lead in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for young children. This role involves assisting with daily classroom activities, supervising children, and ensuring their physical, emotional, and educational needs are met in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in implementing daily lesson plans and age-appropriate activities
  2. Supervise children at all times to ensure safety and well-being
  3. Provide care, including feeding, diapering, and toileting, as needed
  4. Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized classroom environment
  5. Support children's social, emotional, and cognitive development through play and structured activities
  6. Assist with nap time routines and daily transitions
  7. Observe and report children's behavior, progress, and concerns to the Lead Teacher
  8. Follow all health, safety, and licensing regulations
  9. Communicate effectively with team members and support a positive work environment
  10. Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all children in care
  11. Actively engage and interact with children throughout the day
  12. Follow established schedules, routines, and program guidelines
  13. Respond promptly and appropriately to children's needs and emergencies
  14. Maintain accurate records, including attendance and incident reports

Tools/Equipment Used:

Educational/Play Materials: Toys, books, art supplies (paints, crayons), sensory bins, and musical instruments.

Classroom Management Tools: Digital apps (e.g., Brightwheel or Tadpoles), 3-ring binders for portfolios, checklists in sheet protectors, and label makers.

Sanitation/Safety Gear: Cleaning/disinfecting agents, wipes, gloves, first-aid kits, and thermometers.

Child Care Equipment: Strollers, high chairs, cribs, changing tables, and playground structures.

Administrative Items: Computers, printers, and daily log books

Posture:

Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods

Frequent bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor

Motion:

Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods

Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations

Ability to assist children with daily activities and mobility

Lifting:

Frequent requirements to lift and carry children (up to 25–40 lbs) or move furniture/equipment.

Environment:

Active classroom setting with young children

Exposure to noise, bodily fluids, and common childhood illnesses

A combination of indoor classroom and outdoor playground supervision

Fast-paced, interactive, and physically active environment

Capability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Mental Demands:

Ability to remain attentive and alert in a fast-paced environment

Demonstrate patience, emotional stability, and sound judgment

Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills

Ability to work in a setting with frequent noise and interruptions

Maintain a positive, nurturing, and professional demeanor
