Job Summary

The Workers' Compensation Division Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational performance and strategic growth of a designated division within a workers' compensation agency. This role bridges day-to-day management with long-term business development by leading offices and teams, ensuring that service delivery meets industry standards, enhancing operational efficiencies, and maintaining compliance with pre-determined regulatory requirements. The Division Manager serves as a critical link between its superiors and subordinate personnel, ensuring that policies, procedures, and performance goals are effectively implemented and maintained.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate day-to-day operations across assigned sections. Monitor service delivery and claims management processes to ensure strict adherence to agency standards and regulatory requirements. Oversee quality assurance measures and troubleshoot operational issues as they arise. Supervise, mentor, and support subordinate managers and personnel, ensuring the team is well-trained and motivated. Develop and implement performance evaluation processes and training programs to enhance team skills and operational efficiency. Facilitate effective communication throughout the division to promote best practices and continuous improvement. Collaborate with the senior management team to develop and execute strategic plans that align with agency goals. Oversee budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation within the division. Analyze financial and operational performance metrics to identify trends, drive business development, and improve efficiency. Serve as the primary contact for key personnel, including claimants, employers, insurance carriers, and legal representatives. Address escalated client issues while ensuring high levels of customer service and satisfaction. Represent the agency at industry events and meetings, enhancing its local presence and reputation. Ensure all operations meet established legal, safety, and regulatory standards. Implement robust measures to monitor and manage risk, improving compliance with both internal policies and external industry regulations. Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management, highlighting operational, financial, and growth metrics. Use data-driven analysis to propose improvements and guide strategic decision-making.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and manage a variety of assorted personnel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and conflict resolution. Proficiency in interpreting performance data and market trends to inform strategic decisions. Ability to develop innovative solutions to operational and financial challenges. Strong understanding of claims management processes, compliance protocols, and quality control measures. Capable of optimizing workflows and implementing process improvements across multiple sections. A commitment to exceptional customer service and the ability to handle escalated issues with tact and efficiency. Familiarity with industry-specific management and reporting software tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, Occupational Health Administration, or a related field.

Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience within the workers' compensation or related insurance / claims management sectors.

Demonstrated familiarity with the operational, compliance, and customer service aspects unique to the workers' compensation industry.

Relevant industry certifications, such as the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or specialized training in workers' compensation management may be required.

Licensure/Certifications
