Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Performs a variety of duties related to finance in a medical care facility. This healthcare accountant serves as a backup for the payroll function and assures the accuracy of the payroll data through various timecard audits. He/she gathers, analyzes, and interprets financial data to assist in the monthly closing of financials systems and completes a variety of balance sheet reconciliations. Uses analytical skills to assist team in various reporting needs and with special projects.

inimum Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related specialty required

Degree: Master's degree in accounting or related specialty preferred

License/Certification Required:

Minimum Work Experience: 3 years' experience in healthcare accounting with exposure to payroll.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong Excel skills to include v-lookups and pivot tables.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to recognize potential problems and recommend potential solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the payroll process.

  • Conducts various Kronos audits designed to catch mistakes before the payroll calculations occur.

  • Assures that edits to timecards have been made in adherence to hospital policy.

  • Complete EIBs for manual payroll inputs, including physician performance bonuses.

  • Completes EIBs for miscellaneous employee charges.

  • Remains current with payroll processes to step in as needed for backup.

  • Reconciles payroll totals monthly and validates the quarterly 941 reports.

  • Participates in the annual workers compensation audit with outside agency.

  • Participates in the monthly closing process for general ledger in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Prepares and posts various journal entries as assigned.

  • Reconciles various balance sheet accounts as assigned.

  • Analyzes and explain departmental variances as assigned.

  • Posts activity from various stand-alone systems that do not interface with Workday.

  • Completes various balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.

  • Supports the annual audit with various reconciliations and workpapers.

Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
