Project Manager Capital Equipment (Food Processing & Packaging Equipment)
Location: On-site, Hayward, CA
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
About the Role: We are hiring an experienced Project Manager to lead capital equipment projects in the food processing and packaging industry.
This is an onsite role in Hayward, CA, ideal for local candidates with a mechanical or industrial engineering background and at least 5 years of industry experience. The successful candidate will manage projects from purchase order through installation, including scheduling, vendor coordination, and client communication.
Responsibilities:
- Review customer purchase orders, project cost estimates, and performance guarantees
- Identify and resolve commercial and technical issues in coordination with Sales
- Establish and manage project timelines using SAP and MS Project
- Source specialised equipment and controls; manage vendor relationships and pricing
- Monitor mechanical/electrical engineering progress and equipment testing milestones
- Provide weekly updates during internal project meetings
- Track project costs and conduct project close-out reviews
- Support field service and installation; coordinate with customers on-site if needed
- Address and resolve punch-list and warranty-related issues
MUST HAVE Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of experience in food industry projects
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel), MS Project, SAP, CRM, and AutoCAD viewer
- Ability to read and interpret assembly, system layout, and electrical drawings
- Willing to travel up to 25%
Nice-To-Have Experience:
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, controls).
- Familiarity with FDA/USDA or other food-industry regulatory requirements.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification.
