Job Description

The Associate Director of Adult Education and Academic Affairs is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs that support lifelong learning for all adult audiences. This role focuses on providing meaningful learning experiences beyond traditional schooling to support personal enrichment, professional development, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Program Development & Delivery

  • Develop and lead high-quality educational programs for adult learners, including lectures, gallery talks, workshops, and hands-on learning experiences.
  • Design intergenerational and multigenerational programs that promote shared learning between adults, families, and seniors.
  • Integrate current exhibitions and permanent collections into programming content

Partnerships & Outreach

  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, educational institutions, and subject matter experts to enhance program offerings.
  • Cultivate relationships with local organizations, universities, libraries, senior centers, and community groups to expand access and participation in lifelong learning initiatives.
  • Promote lifelong learning opportunities through newsletters, social media, and community engagement.
  • Represent the Museum in community events and collaborations that align with lifelong learning goals

Audience Development

  • Conduct outreach to engage new audiences, especially underserved or underrepresented communities.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to promote lifelong learning offerings through print, email, and social media channels.

Curriculum & Content

  • Coordinate with instructors and guest speakers to develop curricula that align with lifelong learning goals.
  • Ensure materials and teaching strategies are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to adult learning principles.

Evaluation & Reporting

  • Track attendance, feedback, and program effectiveness through surveys and assessments.
  • Provide regular reports on programming outcomes and make data-informed recommendations for improvement

Academic Affairs

  • Conceive, lead, and evaluate the museum’s innovative and inclusive model of programming for faculty and students. Serve as the chief liaison representing faculty interests to the curatorial and collection departments to ensure successful learning experiences for college-level students.
  • Develop and maintain sustained partnerships with local academic departments, including formal partnerships with Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Community College, and Cleveland State University.
  • Conceptualize and provide ongoing leadership to the museum’s Art & Insight close looking program for medical professionals and the Student Guide program. Facilitate in-gallery learning experiences or virtual teaching as needed.
  • Oversee communication and educational materials that support academic programming including, but not limited to, faculty newsletter, webpages, collection resources.
  • Direct and implement special initiatives relating to the display of the collection, and develop cross disciplinary, culturally relevant, student-and faculty-informed projects to advance museum’s reputation regionally, nationally, and globally.

Requirements and Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Adult Learning, Community Development, or a related field and 3-5 years of experience in education, program development, or community engagement.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and best practices in lifelong learning.
  • Excellent organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, members outside organizations, employees of organizations, or visiting scholars and conservators.
  • Proficiency with digital tools, learning platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and data management systems.
