As the backbone of Serverfarm's mission critical data center operations, Data Center Technicians ensure 24/7 uptime and reliability of our advanced infrastructure. You'll be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting critical systems including network infrastructure, fiber optic cabling, computer systems, power distribution, cooling, fire suppression, and environmental controls that keep our clients' digital operations running seamlessly.

Working in a fast-paced, precision-driven environment, you'll collaborate with engineering teams and site leadership to maintain the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and performance. The shift for this role alternates 4 days on, 4 off, alternating day shift to night shift (and vice-versa). Shifts are 12 hours, 6AM to 6PM and 6PM to 6AM.

Key Accountabilities

    • Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cabling and patch connections
    • Set up and configure computer stations and network equipment
    • Monitor power and environmental conditions within all critical spaces within the facility
    • Perform assigned maintenance tasks in accordance with SF practices utilizing the internal CMMS
    • Assist with planning and scheduling corrective maintenance activities
    • Escort and support outside contractors, ensuring they are abiding SF work rules and processes
    • Respond to site incidents, execute appropriate MOP/EOP documentation to resolve and/or mitigate issues and communicate to management throughout event
    • Support and follow all SF Change Control policies and procedures
    • Perform site rounds using inspection checklists and report any issues found to site management
    • Participate in construction and commissioning activities as directed by site management
    • Adhere to all local, state and federal safety laws and requirements
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the management team
    • Participate in and support MOP/SOP/EOP documentation process for site
    • Work with site team members to deliver 100% uptime of critical infrastructure

Required Skills

    • Experience with fiber optic cable installation, termination, and testing
    • Knowledge of data center networking concepts and equipment
    • Computer hardware setup and basic troubleshooting capabilities
    • Understanding of network connectivity and patch panel management
    • Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and documentation
    • Experience working in a Data Center with proven success in delivering customer requirements in a critical technology environment
    • Operating Building Management systems and Fire alarm and detection systems
    • Building facility maintenance experience
    • Evidence of self-management and alignment with ever-changing priorities
    • Good written and oral communication skills, tenacity, and working to a high level of accuracy
    • Ability to work independently and respond effectively to emergency situations
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols

Preferred Skills

    • Operating and maintaining backup electrical systems such as UPS and generators
    • Operating and maintaining chilled water-cooling systems and DX cooling systems
    • Fiber optic certification or relevant networking certifications
    • Previous experience in colocation or hyperscale data center environments
    • Familiarity with DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) systems
    • Experience with cable management and structured cabling standards
$25 - $31 an hour
The listed salary range for this position is an estimate based on the competitive job market. Final compensation will be based on your own individual skills, experience, and location.
