JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing (RN) is responsible for providing leadership, management, and oversight of all nursing staff as they provide psychiatric care. The DON must lead by example and be capable of providing direct patient care in an exemplary manner. This position is responsible for providing clinical oversight for the day-to-day operations of the hospital and for teaching and supervising other mental healthcare workers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation; including but not limited to:

  • Oversee nursing staff to ensure physicians' orders are followed and carried out, assessments are completed and treatment plans are initiated and updated
  • Ensure patient goals are achieved
  • Recruit, orient and develop RNs, LPNs, MHTs, CNAs to provide state-of-the-art psychiatric care
  • Provide meaningful insight and daily direction to the hospital operation as a reliable, engaged and enthusiastic member of the hospital leadership team
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate to ensure ethical, moral and quality care is provided to each patient
  • Represent the hospital and parent company in the community and state as a respected, recognized leader
  • Serve as the chief hospital leader in the absence of the administrator
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience:

o Clinical nursing experience in an acute psychiatric hospital, required

o Management, leadership experience over nursing unit or hospital, preferred

  • Education/License/Certification(s):

o Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a Registered Nursing Degree

o BSN degree preferred

o Psychiatric Nurse Certification preferred

o Current state Registered Nursing license

o Current CPR Certification

o Current CPI Certification

SCOPE AND LEVEL OF WORK:

  • Complexity: Duties assigned may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.
  • Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.
  • Communications: Contacts with the public or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.
  • Supervision Received: Performs work with supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

  • Occasionally needs manager's direction due to extraordinary circumstances
