Job Description

The Design & Construction Department is in charge of the planning and execution of innovative and functional workplace environments for JM Family Enterprises, Inc. The Space Planner plays a critical role in supporting these efforts by developing creative space solutions, managing workplace design projects, and ensuring seamless collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

The Facilities Space Planner leads the end-to-end execution of space planning projects, including workplace reconfigurations, departmental moves, and interior enhancements. This role serves as the primary liaison between business units, vendors, and internal partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational needs. The Facilities Space Planner develops space layouts and implementation strategies, manages budgets and stakeholder communication, and oversees related signage and interior design components.

The ideal candidate is a self-directed planner with strong communication skills, experience in workplace design and furniture systems, and a proven ability to manage complex projects with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

Space Planning & Design

  • Lead stakeholder discussions to assess business needs and translate them into creative, functional space solutions

  • Develop conceptual layouts, test fits, and scenario planning options for occupancy and space optimization

  • Provide direction for furniture layout, finish selections, and workspace standards within assigned projects

  • Coordinate with internal partners and vendors to ensure cohesive design and implementation

Project Management

  • Own all phases of project execution, from intake through implementation and post-occupancy

  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules, track progress and drive accountability

  • Coordinate with IT, Facilities, Admin, Procurement, and external vendors

  • Oversee move planning, signage implementation, and punch list resolution

  • Ensure minimal disruption to operations, including working nights/weekends when required

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as the central point of contact for assigned business units and project stakeholders

  • Facilitate and document meetings, status updates, and decision points throughout the project lifecycle

  • Proactively communicate project status and decisions to ensure alignment and transparency

Additional Duties

  • Contribute to the development of department templates, tools, and process improvements

  • Support campus-wide workplace initiatives and special projects as assigned

  • Maintain flexibility to work outside standard hours based on project needs

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in space planning, workplace design, or commercial furniture systems

  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered

  • Demonstrated ability to manage space-related projects from planning through implementation

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

  • Ability to shift priorities and adapt to evolving stakeholder needs

  • Professional written and verbal communication with internal teams and vendors

  • Confidence in independently owning projects while collaborating as needed

  • High level of accountability, follow-through, and customer focus

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Experience with Integrated Workplace Management Systems (FM: Interact preferred)

  • Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam, or Procore a plus
