We are seeking a dynamic Senior Manager of Software Engineering with expertise in the Java tech stack and strong SQL Server skills to lead and manage software engineering teams in delivering innovative, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to ensure successful delivery of engineering initiatives aligned with business goals.As a key leader in the organization, you will oversee the design, development, and deployment of modern software applications, while fostering a culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate has a strong background in enterprise-grade Java applications, Agile practices, and experience leading diverse technical teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end software development process, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality and scalable applications within budget.
- Provide functional and technical leadership to engineering teams, with a focus on the Java ecosystem and SQL Server optimization.
- Guide the development and maintenance of software applications using Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and related frameworks.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, and Business stakeholders to design and deliver impactful features and enhancements.
- Promote a collaborative, inclusive team environment focused on accountability, creativity, and technical ownership.
- Plan and prioritize development projects and effectively manage team capacity and project timelines.
- Drive the adoption of best practices in software engineering, including continuous integration, automated testing, and code reviews.
- Lead continuous improvements to SDLC processes and enforce high engineering standards.
- Champion Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban across development cycles.
- Implement proactive monitoring, feedback loops, and incident management strategies.
- Stay current with emerging tools and technologies and recommend enhancements to boost team productivity.
- Ensure secure coding practices and compliance with industry data protection regulations.
- Provide transparent and regular communication to senior leadership regarding project status, risks, and dependencies.
- Facilitate collaboration across teams, including architecture, QA, DevOps, and business operations.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 7–10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven expertise in Java development, particularly with frameworks such as Spring Boot, Hibernate, and strong integration experience with SQL Server.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven patterns.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies like React.js, JavaScript, and HTML5 is a plus.
- Strong experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency in SQL Server, including schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, and stored procedures.
- Experience working with distributed systems and event streaming tools (e.g., Kafka, SQS, SNS).
- Familiarity with search and caching tools such as ElasticSearch and Redis.
- Comfortable designing and deploying applications in a cloud-native environment, preferably AWS.
- Solid experience troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing large-scale web applications.
- Strong people management skills: mentoring, performance coaching, and team development.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Passion for innovation, quality engineering, and staying on top of modern software development trends.
Special Work Conditions
- Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
