Reports to: Principal / VP / Supervising Aide

Employment Type: Part-Time (afternoons beginning at 2:30 pm (11:45 pm on Fridays) / opportunity for morning shift also a possibility 7-8 am)

FLSA Status: Principal

Salary Range: $18.00 - 20.00 per hour commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The SpartanCare Aide supports students and fellow staff members during before- and after-school care by fostering a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. Students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including indoor options such as homework assistance, games, and crafts, or outdoor activities such as free play, organized games, and sports on the field or playground. The aide plays an important role in encouraging positive interactions, ensuring student safety, and promoting a well-rounded care experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the after-school program by engaging students in meaningful activities and ensuring a positive environment.
  • Assist students in resolving conflicts and encourage positive peer interactions.
  • Actively interact with students by suggesting games, activities, or creative projects.
  • Maintain attentive supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of child development and the ability to relate effectively to students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Friendly, approachable, and possesses strong interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Familiarity with the organizational structure and practices of the Roman Catholic Church (preferred).
  • Proficient in English, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to check students in and out using digital systems.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the aide must:

  • Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the aide will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
  • Sit on an occasional basis
  • Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
  • Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
  • Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
  • Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 30 pounds from the office to classrooms

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
