Job Description

Summary:

Full Time Hourly Position based at Montpelier DC that is responsible for hauling offsite truckload production and covering additional positions and routes as needed. The Driver coach will train new hires and work with drivers to ensure policies and procedures are followed. Start time will be variable depending on the task and training plan.

The position requires a valid class A CDL license, valid DOT Medical Card, clean MVR and comprehensive knowledge of DOT hours of service. Experience with ELD's preferred not but not required. The ability to lift 40 pounds on a consistent basis with a neat appearance and professional communication skills is mandatory.

Essential Responsibilities for Shuttle:

  • Confirms all paperwork is signed at time of pick-up and delivery
  • Delivers loads and paperwork to the appropriate warehouse
  • Starts shift on-time based on dictated start time of bulk schedule
  • Confirms that there are 2 loads bars in every trailer hauled
  • Comply with trailer sealing policy and load securement policy
  • Reports all incidents and accidents and damage to dispatch immediately
  • Comply with DOT HOS and ELD mandates
  • Maintains adequate following distance per company policies
  • Covers other department routes as needed during vacations
  • Signals the blinker a minimum of 3 times before changing lanes
  • Complies 100% with the Seat Belt Policy
  • Ensures all trailers have a full tank of fuel before dropping them in the yard
  • Maintains a Samsara driver safety score of 95 or above
  • Abides by the hands-free cell phone policy
  • Communicates with dispatch in the event of any delays or start time variation
  • Communicates courteously and respectfully to all customers and fellow co-workers
  • Completes paperwork in a timely and up to date manner (logs, POD's, Time off Requests)
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Responsibilities for Coaching:

  • Part of the onboarding team, review and interview candidates.
  • Trains new drivers out on the road
  • Performs road tests for driver candidates
  • Performs periodic driver road audits to ensure policies and procedures are being completed satisfactorily
  • Performs ride-along and remedial training as needed
  • Coach drivers who need extra training or have had an at-risk event (accident, preventable damage, etc.)
  • Follows up with DC drivers' team if there are any issues that might need addressing and presents them to management to keep information provided consistent
  • Assist in writing and developing new policies and procedures for company drivers
  • Provide feedback to determine preventable equipment damage for safety bonuses
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work performed by other drivers
  • Participates in the accident committee and follows up with at fault driver accordingly

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience
  • Valid Class A CDL and clean MVR
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Successfully pass background check and drug test
  • Current DOT Medical Card required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with FMCSA HOS knowledge of rules and regulations
  • Ability to conduct a valid vehicle pre-trip inspection
  • Safety conscious mentality
  • Consistent, damage free trailer backing and staging
  • Efficient communication to work with members at all warehouse locations
