Job Description

Electric Hydrogen's mission is to make molecules to decarbonize our world! Our outstanding people are our most important asset and will allow us to deliver hydrogen from renewable electrolysis for heavy industry, at prices below fossil fuels.

In this role, you will use your interdisciplinary skills to create compelling plant electrical designs, manage contractors, and ensure smooth plant integration. You will be able to use your creativity and experience to translate product requirements into electrical engineering designs that consider plant hardware, deployment costs, controls equipment, compliance, and electrical safety. We are looking for a team player with unique viewpoints excited to build a new generation of electrolysis equipment.

You will be based in our office in San Jose, CA with an allowable hybrid work schedule. Remote positions may be considered depending on candidate's qualifications. You will report to Director, Product Engineering

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with plant engineering, instrumentation & controls engineering, power systems engineering, and suppliers to develop AC power distribution systems for plant hardware

  • Coordinate and integrate 3D models between systems. Export BOMs/MTO for procurement and fabrication purposes.

  • Create & Review plant electrical drawings (e.g. Single Line Diagrams, Installation Details)

  • Perform electrical equipment sizing calculations sizing in accordance with code and first principles

  • Evaluate cost trade-offs. E.g. distributed and centralized plant electrical designs

  • Support the reliability engineering of plant electrical hardware

  • Interpret P&IDs, Vendor Wiring Diagrams, and other drawings typical of the process industry

  • Develop specifications for plant backup power systems, including generators and control voltage uninterruptible power supply hardware

  • Manage outside vendors for electrical distribution equipment design (Panelboards, MCCs)

  • Contribute to Maintenance and Quality Plans for Plant Electrical Hardware

  • Design for the effects of EMI and EMI compliance for plant electrical systems

  • Design & review plant grounding and bonding systems

  • Define and execute fundamental electrical engineering studies (e.g. Load Flow, Grounding)

  • 20% travel to contractor, vendor, and customer sites, mostly domestic

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial plant electrical distribution design (Skidded/Modular Preferred)

  • 2+ years' experience commissioning, operating, or maintaining plant electrical hardware in an onsite setting

  • You seek and refine product requirements for your designs at all stages

  • NFPA 70 Chapter 5 Article 500 and ATEX Directive/IECEx Protection Methods for Electrical Systems in Hazardous Areas

  • Specialist in large induction electric motor controls and various industrial starter/control schemes (pumps, fans)

  • Excellent 2D and 3D CAD skills (AutoCAD Electrical Preferred)

  • Thermal management of electrical power distribution systems (HVAC, Solar heat gain, etc)

  • Proficiency in ETAP or SKM electrical design & simulation software (ETAP preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70/NEC, IEEE and IEC Codes and Standards

  • Relay Coordination Studies of Complex Plant Electrical Systems

  • Broad knowledge of supply chains and manufacturers for plant electrical distribution hardware

  • Product Certification Experience preferred (e.g. UL Listing, Field Certification)

  • Startup Experience Preferred

  • P.E. Preferred

Electric Hydrogen has three compensation zones. All employees are assigned to a compensation zone depending on their work location. Remote employees will be assigned a compensation zone once their work location is determined. This can be discussed with your recruiter.

San Carlos Zone

$138,000-$162,000 USD

Natick Zone

$120,000-$141,000 USD

National Zone

$107,000-$126,000 USD

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.

Base salary is just one part of Electric Hydrogen's total rewards package. We feel strongly that our team should not have to worry about having quality healthcare. In addition to the base salary offered, the hired applicant may receive:
