Job Description

Location: Dallas, TX

Shift: 2pm start time, until the work is done, Monday - Friday

Pay: $18.50/hr.

The Switch Driver is responsible for driving the trailers in and out of the yard/warehouse and securing loads of product to prepare the trailers for shipment. They should have adequate communication skills to understand written and spoken instructions, excellent safety awareness and the ability to perform manual labor. They need to be able to comfortably operate a semi-truck with a trailer and must be able to back trailers up to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of the dock.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drives a tractor trailer or straight truck in a safe manner to staging area for loading.
  • Perform inspection of the tractor and trailer per company and DOT (Department of Transportation) policies and regulations
  • Check trailer to assure all product and packing slips are on proper loads.
  • Opens and closes curtains and secures loads by ratcheting down straps on trailers to facilitate loading product for transport.
  • Communicates any issues with tractor/trailer to Supervisor.
  • Follows all safety rules and operates equipment in a safety-conscious manner.
  • Assists in duties within the warehouse, meeting all requirements of forklift driver.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Effectively perform all essential functions, including physical requirements
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Basic math, interpersonal/team, and reasoning skills
  • Use of proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and company approved tools while remaining aware of hazards and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read, understand and carry out written procedures and standard work instructions
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Flexibility in scheduling - able to work overtime as needed Ability to learn product inventory and warehouse layout and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year preferred commercial driving experience.
  • Previous experience in a distribution or manufacturing facility

Physical Requirements

  • Able to withstand exposure to seasonal weather elements and wood dust
  • Ability to pass and maintain an active DOT Physical
  • Able to withstand exposure to seasonal weather elements and wood dust.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to get in and out of Tractor independently.
  • Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle or feel.
  • Reaching above shoulder height.
  • Reaching with hands and arms
  • Operating and moving equipment/driving
  • Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance
