SUMMARY
This part-time internship provides the opportunity to gain experience in multiple areas of Occupational Health and Safety.
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Collect and log in PIT and hoist checklists weekly.
Administer New Employee safety orientation for both temps and new hires
Gather and file customer audit records (McDonalds)
Solicit and log chemical buyers purchase monthly
Log into the SAIL and Limble action items from the SPCC and Stormwater inspections
Track authorized freightliner drivers with license and motor vehicle checks
Solicit and log contractor's certificates of insurance
Monthly spill kit inspection at all ERS Stations
Keep secondary container labels printed and ready for issue
Track and collect documented new employee training records
Schedule/Issue and record Plant Safety Inspections and enter action items into the SAIL and Limble
Track usage of PPE vending machines
Enter and track Safety incentive program nominations
Issue toolbox training materials per the calendar and record completion by the Supervisors
Administrative tasks as assigned
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Work Experience
High school diploma or GED required
Interest and knowledge of basic occupational safety procedures preferred
Microsoft Office experience required
Must possess key leadership qualities, including flexibility, reliability, self-starter and effective team player and communicator
Bilingual preferred but not required
Desired Education/Experience
- 1+ years of Occupational Health and Safety or science-related courses
Competencies
Effective communications skills
Excel skills at a high beginner level or low intermediate level
Self-motivated
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to:
Perform activities including bending, stooping, standing, walking
Stand and walk from two (2) to four (4) hours per day
Climb up and down stairs two (2) to four (4) times per day
Operate common office equipment, i.e. PC, phone, copier, printer, fax
Work in climate-controlled environment
Ability to wear designated personal protective equipment when needed on the production floor (i.e. safety glasses, safety shoes, and cut resistant sleeves).
