Reports to: Pastor

Summary

The Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) will design and implement the religious education program as delegated by the Pastor. He/she will develop a comprehensive plan of religious education/formation for preschool through fifth grade and oversee the sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion. The CRE will recruit and monitor catechists, select appropriate materials, and promote the parish's total faith formation mission. communication (both paper and electronic) to parents.

Responsibilities

  1. Budget and Purchasing

a. Prepare, monitor, and administer the religious education budget for Kindergarten through Fifth grade.

b. Set program fees in consultation with the pastor.

c. Prepare program purchase orders and submit to the pastor for approval and ordering.

  1. Recruit and Monitor Catechists

a. Advertise in the parish bulletin for catechists.

b. Research other possibilities for recruiting catechists and volunteers.

c. Assess the number of catechists needed for the religious education program.

d. Conduct regular meetings for catechists, providing resources, formation opportunities, and planning support.

  1. Curriculum Design

a. Continue to build a solid program of catechesis for St. Ann Parish.

b. Assess the different levels and needs of those in the catechetical program.

c. Submit curriculum design and program materials to the Pastor for approval.

d. Be current and up to date on the teachings and doctrines of the church.

  1. Conduct Annual Religious Education Program

a. Observe catechetical volunteer performances and confer privately and individually with each member on both the positive and negative aspects. Provide constructive criticism if necessary.

b. Measure program results against goals set at the beginning of the program.

c. Develop and use evaluation instruments after obtaining approval from the Pastor.

d. Set program schedules, coordinating the calendar and facilities availability.

e. Register participants and collect fees.

g. Maintain attendance records of both participants and catechetical volunteers.

h. Assess catechetical needs of elementary faith formation and set priorities, goals, and objectives with approval of the Pastor.

i. All extracurricular activities, such as meetings with parents for sacramental preparation and retreats, must be planned well in advance and discussed with the Pastor before being announced.

j. Plan and conduct the annual Family Retreat for children preparing for their First Communion.

k. Develop a calendar for the year by August 31, with the pastor's approval.

l. Maintain constant communication with Faith Formation families.

m. Maintain constant communication and collaboration with CRE for the youth.

n. Oversee the coordination of the summer vacation camp.

o. Oversee the coordination of parents' sessions (i.e., Alpha, Sycamore)

p. Participate in staff meetings.

  1. Oversee Sacramental Preparation Program

a. Submit or record all sacramental information in the appropriate sacramental books in a timely manner for First Communion.

  1. Other Duties as Related and Assigned by the Pastor

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community. (Sometimes this requirement may be satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church).
  • Bachelor's Degree required, but master's degree preferred in an appropriate spiritual field.
  • Bilingual - (English and Spanish)
  • At least two years of experience in religious education
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of staff, management and volunteers.
  • Ability to have flexibility to work an irregular work schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to compose correspondence, minutes and/or reports.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Training

  • Must complete ARCHSA Safe Environment Training. This includes Completion of a Criminal Background Check, Code of Conduct, and Ministering to Minors Policy.
  • VIRTUS Training that includes Protecting God's Children, Vulnerable Adult Training and Sexual Harassment Training (must be renewed every three years).
