The Medical Technologist I functions independently under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Senior Medical Technologist.
Responsibilities:
Conducts basic and advanced tests on blood samples, both donor and patient, to ensure proper transfusion of blood and blood products. At an intermediate level, recognizes and resolves discrepancies observed in blood specimens or laboratory equipment; determines procedures to be followed according to preliminary serological results of the specimens; maintains records of transfusions.
Gains experience and develops a working knowledge by performing routine and complex procedures utilizing complex instrumentation and manual methods.
Responsible for the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of results.
Performs and keeps accurate records of equipment maintenance and quality control.
Refers problems and unusual results to appropriate personnel.
Performs clerical and support services as needed.
Responds to customer needs and requests.
Participates in proficiency testing of unknowns and internal and external continuing education.
Participates in continuing education programs related to laboratories.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
1. Bachelors Degree in Science or Medical Technology required
2. ASCP Certification or Eligible based required
