The opportunity

Altruist is entering an exciting growth phase, and we're seeking a Senior Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform Team. In this role, you'll manage a team of talented data engineers, architect scalable systems, and help drive our data strategy forward. You'll work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and BI teams to ensure our data infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.

Your impact

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing technical guidance and career development
  • Oversee the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and data platform infrastructure
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and implement data architecture strategies that support business goals
  • Ensure high standards of data governance, security, and quality across systems
  • Drive the implementation and evolution of ELT processes, data modeling, and data integration initiatives
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure access to high-quality data while ensuring data governance is in place
  • Help define organizational data standards and evangelize best practices for data engineering across the company
  • Support compliance efforts by ensuring that is properly stored and accessed per industry regulations

What you bring

  • Experience- 7+ years in data engineering or related roles, with 3+ years managing high-performing technical teams. Proven experience in a regulated or financial services environment, with an understanding of the complexities of sensitive data systems and security.
  • Leadership- Demonstrated ability to coach and grow talent, foster team collaboration, and create a culture of accountability and excellence.
  • Technical mastery- Deep experience with data platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery; orchestration tools like Airflow; and data management tools like dbt. Strong background in Python (or Java), SQL, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
  • Strategic mindset- Ability to align data platform initiatives with organizational priorities and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Operational excellence- Hands-on experience with CI/CD (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins), data replication tools (e.g., Debezium, Airbyte), and big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, EMR, Hadoop).
  • Education- B.A. / B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

San Francisco, CA salary range

$203,000-$249,000 USD

Total compensation includes a competitive benefits package along with equity in the form of Stock Options (ISOs) for eligible roles. For salaried positions, a salary offer will be determined by a number of factors including experience, skill level, internal pay equity, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
