SUMMARY:
At XL Construction, our Project Managers are trusted leaders responsible for delivering exceptional project outcomes through expert planning, technical execution, and people leadership. They guide their teams in delivering complex, technical construction projects on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.
This role requires a proactive communicator, strategic thinker, and strong collaborator who can manage the details while keeping the bigger picture in focus. Project Managers serve as the central point of coordination across clients, designers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders—ensuring clarity, alignment, and results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead and manage all aspects of project delivery: estimating, preconstruction, procurement, submittals, change orders, RFIs, budgeting, forecasting, billing, scheduling, quality control, turnover/close-out
- Create, assemble, and maintain the project control estimate
- Ensure all permits, inspections, and testing requirements are identified and scheduled
- Collaborate with Superintendents to coordinate field activities and mitigate site challenges
- Maintain accountability for schedule adherence, cost control, and project risk management
Client & Partner Engagement
- Participate in business development activities, including RFQ/RFP responses and pursuits
- Lead Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) meetings, site walks, and client updates
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and consultants
Team & Resource Management
- Supervise and mentor project staff, including Project Engineers, Coordinators, and Accountants
- Promote technical and soft skill development opportunities across the project team
- Appropriately leverage internal resources such as VDC, Lean, Sustainability, Bradley, SPW, and XL Shop
Process & Documentation
- Manage project procurement plans and logs
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all documentation and reporting
- Drive consistency in XL’s safety culture and compliance with jobsite safety programs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- 6+ years of progressive experience in technical construction projects, such as:
- Life Sciences, Bio-Labs, Data Centers, Manufacturing, cGMP, Interiors, Mid-High Rise, Healthcare, OSHPD/HCAI, K–12, Higher Ed/DSA projects (Bay Area preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, MS Project / P6, PowerPoint, and Timberline
- Expert knowledge of Viewpoint Vista
- Ability to develop and manage detailed project schedules
- Deep understanding of all building trades and the permit process, including MEP systems
- OSHA 10 certification required
- Proven success in negotiated, customer-service-oriented delivery environments
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
In accordance with California’s pay transparency requirements, the base salary range for this position is $149,000 – $152,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Total compensation may also include performance-based bonuses.
