Description
The Automotive Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of Bogus Basin's fleet of vehicles and equipment. This includes trucks, SUVs, snowmobiles, utility vehicles, and small-engine machinery. This role ensures all vehicles are in peak operating condition to support mountain operations year-round, especially during the demanding winter season.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Read work orders, perform inspections, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, extracts and reads fault codes, helps determine the best course of action to correct issues, and completes records of inspections, test results, work performed, and parts used in a timely manner.
- Completes preventative maintenance, tuning, and overhauling of equipment in assigned area.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance including oil changes, brake work, tire rotations, and fluid checks.
- Maintain and repair small engines such as snowblowers, snowmobiles, and ATVs.
- Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and maintain accurate service records.
- Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
- Support snow removal operations by maintaining plow trucks and other winter equipment.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns on-mountain as needed, including in adverse weather conditions.
- Assist in the ordering of parts and maintaining inventory.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely vehicle availability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an automotive technician (ASE certification preferred).
- Knowledge of gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, and hydraulics.
- Ability to read service manuals and schematics.
- Valid driver's license with insurable driving record.
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including snow and ice.
- Must have own tools, (diagnostic tools are provided).
- Ability to complete a drivers background check.
- Passionate about Bogus Basins mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a mountain, ski resort, or fleet-based environment.
- Welding and fabrication skills a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and on-call shifts during the winter season.
- Occasionally work in uncomfortable conditions such as dark, cold, snowy, muddy, hot, dusty, dirty, greasy, or smoky
- Uniform Services are provided.
- Reports to the Vehicle Maintenance Director.
- $22-$30 Per Hr. D.O.E
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing in tight or elevated areas.
- Exposure to noise, chemicals, and inclement weather.
