Under direct supervision, perform basic complexity calculations, modeling, and data analysis for water resources projects with a particular focus on riverine and coastal floodplain analyses though hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, risk assessment, and/or hazard mitigation.
As a member of the Water Resources team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by: Performing a variety of routine technical tasks that will provide experience and familiarization with CDM Smith's engineering methods, practices, standards, and company programs; Using prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader assignments; Working under close supervision, receiving specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and expected results.
Job duties will involve handling tasks associated with floodplain mapping and floodplain management, hydrology and hydraulics, and project reviews associated with FEMA Letter of Map Revisions (LOMRs). Tasks will include:
- Review LOMR case requests for both riverine and coastal sources to determine if they meet all FEMA criteria justifying a change to published flood hazard data
- Review hydrologic and hydraulic models for technical accuracy
- Verify compliance with FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards and FEMA Guidelines and Specifications
- Preparation of all appropriate FEMA documentation and correspondence
- Verbal and written communication skills will be utilized on a daily basis to interact directly with the client (FEMA) and LOMR requesters
- Resolution of floodplain mapping issues related to LOMRs
- Oversight and guidance of third party LOMR preparations

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be a US citizen
Excellent at collaboration and teamwork
Knowledge of basic hydrologic and hydraulic concepts.
Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
