Job Description

The 1st Shift Sr. Bagging Operator plays a critical role in overseeing and executing daily production operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing of pet food products. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and food manufacturing standards.

As the subject matter expert (SME) on production floor processes and equipment, the 1st Shift Sr. Bagging Operator provides technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and training to team members. While supporting all aspects of production operations, this role holds full accountability for critical equipment functions while providing support to the Team Lead on scheduling, organization, and 5S activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the go-to resource and SME for production operations, supporting associates with training, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
  • Take full ownership of specialized equipment responsibilities, including:

Operations and troubleshooting of the BellMark Printer, Assembly and breakdown of the Vemag 4 Piston Depositor & hopper, the Marlen filler and Liftrac conveyor , and performing chain changes on the Marlen.

  • Lead equipment setup, changeovers, breakdown, and reassembly across bagging, depositing, conveying, and weighing systems.
  • Monitor and adjust production equipment to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Perform and document quality checks, product reconditioning, and reporting activities to meet safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage material flow, inventory, and stocking of the Bagging Room to support continuous operations.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, collaborate with maintenance, and ensure minimal downtime.
  • Drive preventative safety/quality activities and compliance with GMP and food safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements and contributing to team problem-solving.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training and/or experience in functional tasks, with demonstrated technical skills.
  • Basic computer/iPad literacy for reporting and documentation.

Knowledge / Experience

  • 2+ years of manufacturing or production experience (food industry preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of GMPs, food safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in equipment operation, changeovers, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods on hard surfaces.
