Job Description

Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) plays a vital role in ensuring surgical patients are medically optimized and appropriately prepared for their procedure. This APP will work collaboratively with the anesthesia team, perioperative staff, and primary care providers to reduce perioperative risk, enhance continuity of care, and minimize day-of-surgery cancellations. The APP will provide comprehensive assessments, review diagnostics, and make evidence-based recommendations for optimization prior to surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-surgical evaluations to assess medical readiness and optimization needs.

  • Review medical history, diagnostic results (labs, EKGs, imaging), and consults to identify risks and address gaps prior to surgery.

  • Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and primary care providers to create individualized perioperative care plans.

  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and initiate referrals or treatment adjustments when clinically indicated.

  • Educate patients and families on surgical preparation.

  • Serve as a liaison between the surgical services, and inpatient teams to ensure care continuity and communication.

  • Document assessments, plans, and communications in the electronic medical record.

  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement and optimization initiatives related to surgical clearance and efficiency.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge in perioperative care, risk stratification, and pre-surgical optimization.

  • Familiarity with ASA classification, surgical risk calculators, and anesthesia considerations.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in interpreting labs, diagnostic imaging, and managing comorbid conditions.

  • Strong EMR documentation skills; Epic experience preferred.

  • Ability to function autonomously and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Current licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida.

  • Physician Assistant Board Certification or Acute Care/ Adult Gerontology Acute Care board certification or Family Nurse Practitioner certification.

  • National certification is required for PAs.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a provider is required.
