Job Description
- Maintains ongoing surveillance of patient's cardiac rhythms and notifies Charge Nurse or nurse assigned to patient of any variations or abnormal findings.
- Documentation of rhythm strips at least every 12 hours and immediate notification to nurse of significant arrhythmia or change in patient's rhythm.
- Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge.
- Responsible for reviewing telemetry orders and making sure patients have parameters set by the provider
- Notifies clinician of significant artifact that needs to be addressed such as pts. off the monitor and battery replacement, lead failures.
- Provide cleaning, maintenance and distribution of telemetry equipment, monitors and wires.
- Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
- Compiles new charts, maintains current charts and enters patient information in the computer, and other necessary forms. Assist in orientation of new staff to duties of the unit. Requisitions supplies and equipment. Orders maintenance and repair services, enters task to appropriate dept. Keeps Unit Clerical supplies inventoried.
- Completes EKG course and demonstrates competency in interpreting basic EKG strips. Prints strips on new patients placed on the cardiac monitors.
