Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The following is a job description for mid-level practitioners such as Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP), Nurse Practitioner Certified (NP-C), Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP), and Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C) at Valley Health Care, Inc. (VHC) under the supervision of a supervising physician. Some differences may exist between the medical rules and regulations and the boards that govern each type of mid-level practitioner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform histories & physicals on adult and children patients, make initial assessments of their condition, order appropriate lab, x-ray, or other studies as needed to aid in the diagnosis, and initiate treatment. Protocols will be provided to the mid-level practitioner to provide guidelines for appropriate workup and treatment. The mid-level practitioner will be responsible for providing direct patient care for patients at VHC.
- The mid-level practitioner will be responsible for maintaining accurate and legible medical records on all patients the mid-level practitioner sees, in accordance with established VHC standards for charting. The mid-level practitioner is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of patient encounters and patient records.
- The mid-level practitioner will assist staff physicians & other personnel in stressing the importance of preventive medicine. The mid-level practitioner will assist in patient education, both on an individual basis and in public education programs.
- The mid-level practitioner will assist the Medical Director and the Chief Executive Officer in their duties, including gathering and analyzing data, formulating short-term goals and programs, in the preparation of reports, and in establishing and maintaining liaisons with other organizations to coordinate the delivery of health services & programs. The mid-level practitioner will also assist in implementing the quality assurance system. Including following OSHA policies.
- Perform histories and physicals on patients, including pregnant patients.
- Make initial assessments of conditions, including pregnant patients, for evaluation of obstetrical and non-obstetrical complaints.
- Formulate a plan of treatment.
- Orders appropriate lab and x-ray studies, including but not limited to blood, urine, and stool cultures.
- Perform venipuncture.
- Insert catheters.
- Insert nasogastric tubes.
- Give injections.
- Perform EKG's
- Perform CPR.
- Perform rectal & pelvic exams, including preparation and interpretation of slides for wet mount, KOH, and ferning.
- Irrigate ear canals and perform audiometry screening
- Repair lacerations.
- Suture removal.
- Wart removal via electrodesiccation or chemical cautery and lesion excision
- Appropriate follow-up histological studies.
- I&D of wounds.
- Apply cervical collars, splints, and ace wraps.
- Dress wounds.
- Perform fluorescein staining of eyes, eye irrigation & apply eye patches.
- The mid-level practitioner will be required to perform other duties within the scope of the law and training or as required by Board of Medicine.
- Perform new procedures as new laws allow or continuing education allows.
- Work with other staff to facilitate the flow of patients to be efficient and productive
- Carry out aseptic and isolation techniques.
- Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations; for example, cardiac arrest, respiratory distress in injuries, burns, and hemorrhage.
- Execute documents under the direction of and for the supervision physician.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Certificate from a college or accredited school and licensed:
- Physician Assistants Certified (PA-C)
- Nurse Practitioner (CFNP) (NP-C) (PNPC)
- Or higher nursing degree/certificate, licensed to practice medicine
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Mid-level practitioners will need to have current and keep current licenses as required by federal, state, or other regulatory agencies.
