Job Description
Chicago Meat Authority (CMA) is proud to have celebrated 34 years in the food industry. Located in Chicago’s historic Stockyards, CMA is a forward thinking processor of value added beef, pork, and poultry items with a strong focus on selling the Healthcare, Hotel, and Institutional Markets (HRI), meat purveyors, and Multi-unit regional and national chains up to and including big box stores. In addition, CMA specializes in custom cuts for further processors including but not limited to grinding operations, deli manufacturers, and the prepared entrée market.
CMA is seeking a CDL Truck Driver for our meat processing facility who will ensure the smooth movement of product from inbound materials through the production process to outbound finished product, while ensuring appropriate storage at the various stages.
What you get to do / Responsibilities
- Safely transporting products between company plants.
- Safely transporting product from plant to storage facility.
- Safely transporting product to customer.
- Making timely deliveries and pickups as scheduled.
- Convey customer feedback to the sales group.
- Complete a daily truck log and submit reports of mileage covered at EOD.
- Observe and report equipment or mechanical failures immediately.
- Manage routes and routines so they proceed in the most efficient way possible.
- Find ways to conserve resources, including fuel, to benefit the business.
- Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador in every interaction with clients and the public.
- Conduct daily inspections of the vehicle at the end of the shift and report any problems or damage to management.
- Comply with all DOT and in-house regulations and rules.
- Proactively present issues with proposed solutions.
- Responsible for pallet exchange and return.
- Monitor safety performance, taking appropriate action to commend safe work practices and resolve all safety infractions as they occur.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
What we want from you/ Qualification
- CDL driver’s license with at least 3 years of commercial driving experience.
- Ability to work in a cold, humid environment.
- Class A driver’s license in good standing.
- High School Diploma/ GED Preferred
- No DWI/DUI in last 10 years.
- Work extended hours, holidays and weekends if needed. Experience in a goal-oriented warehouse and/or production environment
- Food service plant experience; cold storage preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Work Environment
- This position requires frequent driving, including local and regional routes, with occasional long-distance travel as needed.
- Drivers may be exposed to varying weather conditions, traffic congestion, and changing road conditions during transport.
- Must be comfortable operating commercial vehicles in high-traffic and tight delivery areas.
- Work is performed in and around refrigerated environments, warehouses, loading docks, and production areas. Exposed to perform in a refrigerated environment maintained at approximately 35°F to 40°F to ensure product safety and quality.
- The facility is a meat processing plant where employees may be exposed to raw meat, blood, and meat by-products.
- Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as insulated coats, gloves, hairnets, hard hats, and slip-resistant boots for safety and hygiene in certain areas of the facility.
- The environment may be loud due to machinery; hearing protection is available.
- The pace can be fast and physically demanding.
- Adherence to strict safety, cleanliness, and food handling regulations is required at all times.
- Strict adherence to sanitation and food safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP) is mandatory.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $28 to $35 per hour, based on experience.
