Job Description
The Staff Engineering Systems Administrator role is pivotal in developing and managing the engineering software toolchain that enables engineering processes throughout IonQ, including Solidworks, PDM, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in general mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering, CAD/PDM administration, implementation, and best practices for data management that ensures seamless integration of design with other enterprise systems and business processes. You should have a deep understanding of engineering processes through first-hand development experience, to facilitate implementation of engineering processes within our toolchain.
To be successful in this role, you will have to develop a detailed understanding of IonQ's engineering needs across multiple disciplines, maintain and improve a PDM (and related software tool strategic roadmap), source and manage multiple engineering software tools, and ensure cross-tool integration with engineering and non-engineering tools such as NetSuite, Altium, Jira, and Confluence. You will be responsible for informing engineering best practice process decisions and right-sizing them based on our tool capabilities.
This role is a "player-coach" hybrid that will require you to function as a strategic partner and technical advocate with senior engineering leadership, and seamlessly pivot to administrative duties, training end-users, trouble-shooting, working with IT and other technology partners, coordinating system changes, and managing vendor relationships.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide administration, installation, technical support, and maintenance for all PDM software
- Use tool implementation knowledge to inform and document engineering process decisions, and implement corresponding updates in the tool, facilitating tool success.
- Develop, secure stakeholder support for, and manage strategic CAD PDM and related systems-and-technology priorities across the company.
- Plan and execute tool implementations, changes, and upgrades including developing, communicating, and managing detailed change management plans for multiple stakeholders.
- Configure and maintain PDM/PLM workflows using SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) and Duro.
- Implement and maintain CAD file standards, templates, libraries and system configurations.
- Maintain and administer a SolidWorks PDM Vault.
- Manage end-user training including development of training objectives, building in-house training and/or sourcing external training, and delivering that training to local and remote end-users.
- Develop, publish, review, and enforce best practices for data and configuration management.
- Assist Engineering Management in developing and maintaining both expense and capital budgets regarding PDM software and hardware requirements.
- Resolve and assist users with tool-related productivity issues.
- Coordinate with IT system administration for implementation of PDM and CAD system software upgrades.
- Develop framework for a parts library, and maintain with input from CAD users.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in TEM related field, ideally Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar. Substantive experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
- 8+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CAD/PDM Administrator or similar position.
- Proficiency or expert knowledge in using CAD tools. Experience with SolidWorks is required.
- Direct experience integrating PDM systems with upstream and downstream related systems (e.g., with Solidworks CAD and Duro PLM).
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing complex programs including multiple stakeholder teams/organizations.
- Strong experience with Data Management and Configuration Control management
- Demonstrated ability to define learning objectives, build, and deliver user training on PLM/PDM systems. Experience sourcing and program managing the delivery of external training useful, but not required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with collaboration tools such as MS Teams, Confluence, and Jira.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in Physics related and/or Quantum or Quantum-adjacent companies is extremely helpful.
- Previous experience in supporting the design of electronic packages, ground structures, mechanisms, and/or composite structures.
- Experience with hardware and software teams and the confluence of SW, HW, and related technologies is highly desired.
- Experience integrating PDM and related tools with non-engineering tools such as NetSuite is strongly preferred.
- General IT experience and/or substantive experience working with IT teams in support of PDM and related technologies.
- PMI (Project Management Institute) or similar certification desired.
Location: This is a hybrid role, ideally based at our office located in Bothell, WA, with the option to work remotely a few days a week. We are open to a fully remote option for the right candidate.
Travel: Up to 10%
