Description

This full time position combines the roles of Paraeducator and Teaching Assistant ("Para/TA"). The Para/TA plays an important role at the Child Development Center and is essential to our high program quality.

Paraeducators (Paras) work one-on-one with students ages 2-5 years old in The J's accredited Child Development Center. Paras work together with the co-teachers to help support behavior management, behavior plans, and any special needs for their assigned child.

A Para/Teaching Assistant provides a safe, nurturing environment for all children in preschool care and helps to implement lesson plans created by teachers. Our Teaching Assistants work as an integral part of the classroom community.

Schedule

Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm

Essential Functions

  • Adapt and provide accommodations for classroom activities under the direction of the teachers.
  • Aid students in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist students requiring support for personal care (diaper changing, potty training, hand washing, etc.)
  • Maintain appropriate ratios/supervision at all times.
  • Consistent and on-time attendance.

Requirements

  • Degree in early childhood education, special education or a related field and/or experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
  • High school diploma plus some college and/or relevant experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements

Job requires frequent (2-5 hours per shift) standing, walking, carrying and repetitive motions and occasional (up to 2 hours per shift) sitting, lifting up to 20 pounds, pushing/pulling, climbing and stooping/crouching.
