Job Description
60% Visually inspect and scan portable fire extinguishers. Evaluate the current inventory of fire extinguishers and check them for functionality. Replace damaged and missing equipment in a timely manner.
25% Inspect and test automatic external defibrillators and emergency eye wash/showers located in teaching and research labs to ensure they meet OSHA/ANSI standards for operation. Submit work orders for equipment needing repairs.
15% Provide assistance with fire drill activities designed to promote awareness of proper procedures in the event of a fire. Contribute to the process of testing fire equipment and perform preventative maintenance or repair on smoke detectors, pumps, and alarm systems.
10% Provide administrative and clerical support to the department as needed. Respond to both emergency and non-emergency situations that are normally covered by the department.
Additional Position Information:
Education: Requires 18 months of education or training beyond high school
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements: Valid Driver's Ohio License
Experience: Requires a minimum of 1 year of experience maintaining and inspecting fire extinguishers and other related safety equipment. Basic computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and data management and ability to use cloud-based inventory management system to track assets and to submit work orders to PFOC. Ability to operate communication equipment required.
Leadership: Responsible for directing and monitoring the work of student employees.
Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending and/or stooping; periodic
lifting of moderately heavy items (over 25 lbs. -- 50 lbs.). Ability to climb ladders to access fire extinguishers in mechanical areas and catwalks.
Working Conditions: Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperatures and air conditions. May involve occasional
exposure to dust, fumes, or outside weather conditions, and/or frequent driving of a vehicle (50% or more of the time).
