Pay Range: $22.58 - $28.63 per hour (AFSCME-87 Pay Plan, B22 Step 1-13)
Hiring Range: $22.58 - $23.96 (AFSCME-87 Pay Plan, B22 Step 1-4 DOQ)

There is an Office Specialist II vacancy with the Yakima County Prosecutor's Office. This position performs specialized document production, entry into confidential databases, review of case files for potential conflicts of interest; analyze and image police reports, evidence and legal documents for internal system and distribution to defense counsel; coordinate imaging workflow issues with internal and external departments and law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, defense attorneys and paralegals.

Note: This is an AFSCME-87 Union Bargaining Position.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
Creates legal documents as needed by attorneys for court. Creates, summarizes, edits and/or distributes a variety of documents such as summons, information, judgments and sentences, court ordered sentence modifications; filing. Updates forms as needed.
Performs research in specialized computer systems and prepares related legal documents and reports.
Creates and maintains complex files and databases such as official records or legal case files. Maintains filing systems in accordance with established procedures.
Provides assistance to the general public and other law and justice agencies. Provides assistance and responds to other support staff regarding procedures and policies to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations and standards.
Other duties required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED AND four (4) years of general office or specialty experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation, fingerprinting, and general employment verification.
Preferred:
Legal or Court experience
Bilingual English/Spanish
Equipment Used: Computer, telephone, typewriter, printers, copy machine, E-Mail, fax, calculator, transcriber, voice mail and other general office equipment.
Working Conditions: This position is rated as Sedentary Work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Environment: Although the Prosecutor's felony division office is not located in a locked down facility, the office specialist is from time to time required to go to the courtrooms located in the basement of the county jail, which is locked down.
Physical Demands: bending, carrying, handling, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, fingering, crouching, kneeling, hearing, talking, visual acuity, stooping, grasping, feeling, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Intellectual Demands: ability to multi-task, confidentiality, ability to work under pressure, ability to articulate clearly and communicate information in conversations, ability to follow written instructions, and ability to follow verbal instruction.
Knowledge:
Legal process and pleadings; Legal terminology; Office practices and procedures
File maintenance techniques; and Customer service techniques
Skills and abilities:
Performing tasks under deadline pressures
Organizing and maintaining case file data and paying attention to detail and accuracy
Using office equipment, computers, digital imaging equipment and related software applications
Analyzing reports in order to index properly
Applying customer service techniques
Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels with many different law & justice agencies and communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information.
