Summary of Job:

The HVAC Pre-Apprentice plays a critical role in daily operations, and in advancing Hoffmann Brothers’ environmental responsibility initiatives. The candidate will be learning the different components and materials utilized in HVAC installations as well as the roles and duties of various Field Professionals. This individual will be responsible for identifying, sorting, and ensuring the proper recycling and disposal of materials from job sites, warehouses, and facilities. Using company vehicles, the candidate will travel between worksites and various locations in order to deliver and recover materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Recover refrigerant from discarded HVAC and refrigeration equipment

·         Learn to identify HVAC components and equipment as well as the locations where they are sourced.

·         Assist in all areas of the company as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations

·         Ensure all recyclable materials are correctly sorted, and transferred to appropriate recycling streams

·         Dismantle HVAC and other mechanical equipment using hand and power tools to recover recyclable and reusable components

·         Identify and recover new or reusable materials that may have been discarded

·         Recover used materials from job sites for recycling, reuse, or proper disposal

·         Maintain safe and clean workspaces according to OSHA and company safety standards

·         Maintain a clean and safe work area in shop and field environments

·         Collaborate with warehouse and field teams to streamline material recovery processes

·         Promote and model environmentally responsible behavior within the company

·         Communicate with management to identify opportunities for operational efficiency

Qualifications:

·         Solid mechanical comprehension and a desire to advance in their career.

·         Familiarity with power tools and safe handling practices

·         Attention to detail in sorting materials and recognizing recoverable components

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions

·         A commitment to safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement

·         Must become EPA certified for refrigerant handling within 10 days of hire

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

This role involves frequent lifting, bending, standing, and use of manual and power tools. Technicians may work indoors and outdoors and will be exposed to dust, noise, and debris. PPE will be provided and must be worn as required. Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate machinery safely is required.
