Department: LIRR - Special Projects
Location: 420 Lexington Avenue
Position Title: LIRR Special Projects, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate: $22.00 (Post-Graduate)
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
Long Island Railroad (LIRR) - Special Projects department manages the planning, design, construction, and implementation of the project for the benefits of our customers from their inception to successful completion, while adhering to the specific project's scope, schedule and budget.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in monitoring project milestones, documenting progress, and reporting performance to stakeholders.
Assist in collecting, organizing, and distributing feedback, ensuring timely implementation of comments.
Assist in recording meeting minutes, tracking action items, and following up as needed.
Assist in monitoring project timelines, budgets, and generating progress reports.
Participate in safety training, promote safety awareness, and assist in ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Assist in conducting field visits to inspect project sites, resolve issues, and provide feedback to the team.
Assist in developing and analyzing project budgets, monitoring expenses, and addressing cost discrepancies.
Support procurement strategies, vendor selection, contract negotiations, and tracking timely deliveries.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
- The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
- Problem solving skills, team building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA AND/OR matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
- Major(s) Preferred: Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Business Management; Degree is not required as long as the candidate is an active matriculating student pursuing a BS or MS degree, or related field.
