Job Description

Overtime is mandatory if deadlines aren't met

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design floor and roof framing systems using EWP materials based on architectural drawings and customer specifications.
  • Utilize structural design software (e.g., Forte, Javelin, BC Calc, or similar) to develop accurate, code-compliant designs.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, builders, and sales teams to provide optimized EWP solutions.
  • Review structural loads, span tables, and connection details to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Produce layout drawings, material lists, and cut sheets for jobsite delivery and installation.
  • Provide technical support for EWP products, including load charts, installation guidelines, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building codes, product innovations, and industry trends.
  • Conduct jobsite visits as needed to evaluate framing issues and provide engineering support.
  • Assist with training internal staff and external clients on EWP design and application.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • EIT or PE certification preferred (depending on region and role requirements).
  • 2+ years of experience in engineered wood or structural framing design.
  • Proficiency in structural design software for EWP (e.g., Forte, Javelin, BC Calc, SAPPHIRE, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of wood construction methods, structural loads, and building codes (IBC, IRC).
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong math, spatial reasoning, and technical drawing abilities.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the building supply industry, truss or framing design, or working with lumberyards/distributors.
  • Knowledge of APA or ICC-ES standards for engineered wood products.
  • Project management or field experience is a plus.
