Position Summary:

The Dispatcher is a critical role in emergency medical services for a 162-acre campus that contains 800+ residents and patients, that involves coordinating and dispatching first responders to respond to emergency calls and provide immediate medical assistance. This role requires excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational skills to ensure timely and effective response to emergencies; while providing boutique level services to our community. In addition, demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and goals of the mission of Hebrew Senior Life and recognize members' dignity and choice in aspects of daily life. Shift Coverage Expectation:

We are looking for per-diem coverage on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Shifts are 630a-3p, 230p-11p, and 1030p-7a.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Emergency Call Management:
  • Receive emergency calls from individuals in need of medical assistance.
  • Remain calm and composed while gathering essential information from callers.
  • Determine the nature and severity of the medical emergency to prioritize responses.
  1. Dispatch Coordination:
  • Use computer-aided systems (MaxtrixCare, Meditech, Ciscor OneSource, RoamAlert, Premysys, exacqVision CCTV, iTrak logging system) to effectively assign staff to emergency and support calls.
  • Evaluate available resources, such as the closest available officer to optimize response times.
  • Coordinate multiple emergency calls simultaneously, prioritizing critical situations.
  1. Communication:
  • Relay critical information to EMTs, paramedics, and other first responders via phone & radio.
  • Keep emergency personnel updated about the situation as it evolves.
  • Offer medical guidance and support to callers until EMS units arrive.
  1. Resource Management:
  • Maintain accurate records of emergency calls, responses, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services and agencies to coordinate responses during major incidents.
  1. Decision-making:
  • Make quick & effective decisions to deploy appropriate resources based on the severity and type of emergency.
  • Prioritize calls and allocate resources based on the level of urgency.
  1. Customer Service:
  • Demonstrate empathy and professionalism when dealing with distressed callers.
  • Provide reassurance and clear instructions to those in need until EMS arrives.
  1. Training and Compliance:
  • Stay up-to-date with protocols, procedures, and relevant READ FILE guidelines.
  1. Problem Solving:
  • Handle unexpected situations and adapt to changing circumstances during emergencies.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require additional education).
  • Proficient in using computer-aided dispatch systems and other communication tools like VoiceFriend.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to work in shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight.
  • Clean criminal background and drug screening
  • Physical fitness and the ability to sit for extended periods.

Qualifications:

  • *First Responder certification required

  • Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor.
  • Demonstrated ability to think clearly during emergency situations.
  • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change, function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Superb organizational skills. Must have solid analytical skills. Must be creative and proactive yet disciplined, discriminating and able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing.
  • Ability to proofread documents and check for accuracy.
  • Must be professional proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor.
  • Computer literacy required: experience with databases, Windows, Word, Excel, and databases.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to perform extensive walking patrols of the campus when needed.
