The Director of Tax Planning will lead a global team responsible for a broad range of transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, restructuring and cross-border planning. This role will focus heavily on identifying issues, risks, and opportunities around the world. Responsible for the management of a world-class tax team and external tax consultants.

Essential Job Duties

  • Research, analysis, advice, and planning of domestic and international tax issues.
  • Development and implementation of tax planning initiatives, including oversight of reporting on various planning transactions via the annual compliance process.
  • Defense of tax issues in IRS audits and appeals.
  • Manage international staff resources involved in tax reporting for operations, including maintenance of earnings & profits, tax pools, and determination of available tax credits.
  • Manage transfer pricing policies and related documentation and ensure compliance.
  • Lead tax involvement of M&A activity.
  • Work closely with our European team and act as Counsel in tax optimization and cash repatriation initiatives.
  • Monitor domestic and international legislative changes that may impact the Company’s tax position, including tax accounting implications.
  • Manage and direct the effective use of outside tax consultants throughout the world
  • Provide direction to other Tax Department members to ensure that international and planning transactions are appropriately reported on the US tax return.
  • Work closely with operating personnel, as well as personnel from the Law Department, Corporate Development, Treasury, Corporate Controllers Department and others.
  • Assume other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensures quality standards. Responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate income taxation.
  • Significant experience required in tax planning, M&A, research and compliance in a law firm, public accounting firm, and/or large corporate environment.

Preferred Requirements  

  • CPA.
  • Juris Doctorate.
  • Post-merger/acquisition integration and reorganization experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, etc. Ability to create, maintain and incorporate functions into Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, databases, and PowerPoint presentations to support business objectives.
  • Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written skills. May train others in functional areas, interact with others and make presentations to department or middle management.
  • Problems encountered are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures.
  • Decisions generally affect own job or assigned functional area.
  • Results are defined; sets personal own goals and determines how to achieve results with few or no guidelines to follow; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously with moderate complexity.

Essential Physical Demands/Work Environment  

  • Work is primarily sedentary: must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse, frequently.
  • Travel may be required periodically, including overnight stays (contingent on position requirements).
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
