Job Description

The Vice President provides operational and strategic leadership for Advanced Practice Providers and Ambulatory Nursing across the enterprise in collaboration with executive leaders and physicians within Children's Physician Group and Centers. This leader functions as primary resource in advanced practice regarding recruitment and retention, scope of practice, utilization and collaborative practice models, credentialing, orientation, compensation, professional development, student placement, regulatory and compliance. Establishes and maintains excellence in ambulatory nursing. Responsible for creating and supporting processes that support care across the continuum from acute care to ambulatory that improve clinical efficiencies, throughput, and comprehensive patient care needs. The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer, Children 's Physician Group with dotted line reporting to the Chief of Children's Physician Group and Chief of Nursing.

Experience

  • 10 years' experience in clinical operations, healthcare management
  • Experience leading and building a strong proven clinical organization and infrastructure
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships between clinical and non-clinical stakeholders
  • Experience in overseeing multiple functions with track record of leading successful strategic plan development and implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in Nursing
  • MBA or MHA

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a formal Pediatric Nurse Practitioner training program (MSN)

Certification Summary

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact AND Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of Georgia OR licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Georgia
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANP), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) OR Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants working in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Anesthesia, Hematology/Oncology, and Critical Care (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants working in Neonatology may provide NRP certification in lieu of PALS)

Job Responsibilities

  • Set strategic vision and workforce priorities for advanced practice providers and ambulatory nursing and align with system strategic plan
  • Set advanced practice and ambulatory nursing clinical practice standards
  • Maintain adherence to regulatory, licensing, and compliance requirements

  • Incorporate advanced practice and ambulatory nursing into strategic and operational planning cycle
  • Collaborates with Chief physicians, VPs of Nursing, Children's Physician Group and Center leadership, Chief Medical and Nurse Officers in meeting quality and strategic goals
  • Accountable for the development of innovative care models to achieve ongoing growth in providers and productivity of APPs that demonstrates top of license practice and leads to increased access and improved quality
  • Provide leadership to APPs practicing throughout the enterprise through excellent management, coaching, and mentoring to professional development of the APPs in concert with the organizational mission, values, and goals
  • Serves as a resource to the organization and physician leadership regarding APP models of care that are best suited for Children's through scope of practice and how APPs support the mission, vision, and values of Children's.
  • Partners with human resources and medical staff services to ensure that policies and procedures regarding hiring, credentialing and privileging, compensation and performance appraisals/competencies are implemented
  • Provides leadership to enable directors to oversee operational, clinical, and financial components and outcomes of their areas of responsibility through mentoring and oversight
  • Collaborates with nursing leaders to provide vision, direction, leadership and support for ambulatory nursing
  • Closely monitors industry workforce trends, state and federal legislation, accrediting organizations, etc. and provides recommendations and action plans to inform and guide organizational strategic decision making
  • In collaboration with CNO, leads the nursing strategic plan that is aligned with the system strategic plan
  • Identifies opportunities and implements systems to improve the value of care and services to patients and families across the care continuum
  • Contributes to the advancement of nursing through participation in activities and professional associations at state and national levels and in scholarly activities
  • Leverages nursing assets/strengths that optimize quality and safety outcomes
  • Develops nurse leaders and supports autonomy, involvement, and empowerment
  • Cultivates a nursing culture that promotes and rewards professional growth, interdisciplinary collaboration, constructive communication, flexibility, teamwork, leadership, and customer service
  • Develops and supports mechanisms to reward and recognize excellence in nurses
  • Provides oversight for development of common standard policies and competencies for nurses
  • Integrates ethics standards into clinical practice and decision making
  • In partnership with Human Resources, is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs to promote recruitment, retention, professional development, and continuing education of nurses
  • Coordinates the Shared Governance Structure
  • Represents and provides nursing leadership for Epic and other IS&T projects
  • Supports organization's efforts in national recognition, particularly Magnet certification
