Job Title: Electrics Assistant to Production Manager

Department: School of Arts & Design

Supervisor:  Ken Blinn

Starting Rate of Pay:  $8.00

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Department Description

The David R. Hayworth School of Arts and Design (SOAD) Departments of Theater & Dance and Music offer a wide variety of collaborative, hands-on learning opportunities for students. The Electrics Assistant will assist the Production Manager in successfully preparing and operating technical equipment for all Admissions Events including Open House, Orientations… and assisting with events produced by the Depts. of Theatre & Dance, and Music.

Job Description

Students will serve as assistants preparing for each event with accuracy and attention to detail.  Students will also have the opportunity to program and operate lighting, sound and AV consoles as needed. 

Job Location/ Hours Required

Students will report to either the Pauline Theater in Hayworth Fine Arts Center or the Black Box also known as the Empty Space Theater the majority of the time. Occasionally shows will happen in other locations on campus. Students will be notified ahead of time. This position requires at least 10 hours per week, and will include evenings and weekends during performances.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation for each event
  • Operation of Admissions and T&D, and Music events as needed
  • Assist with preparation for each Dept. of T&D, and Music performances
  • Work with staff and crew hanging lights and / or loading in scenery.
  • Other duties as necessary for individual productions

Required Qualifications:

  • Approachable, friendly, ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Organized and have good time management. Some start times will be early.
  • Familiarity, interest and appreciation for the performing arts.

Desired Skills:

  • Must have a minimum 3.4 overall GPA
  • A desire to learn more about theater, dance and music
  • Experience in mixing and operating digital sound consoles, programming / operating ETC lighting consoles, AV gear such as cameras, switchers, recording, streaming…
