Job Description

Karman+

We are inventors, designers, engineers, scientists, tinkerers, entrepreneurs, adventurers, artists, activists, global citizens, architects, musicians, builders, writers, athletes and space nerds. We partner with the best minds and most experienced teams across industry and academia, bringing together the knowledge, experience, and skills required to navigate our critical path.

Mission

We want to mine space resources from near-Earth asteroids to provide abundant, sustainable energy and resources in space and for Earth.

Vision

Asteroid mining has lived at the intersection of scientific research and popular culture for decades, with as many academic papers published as there are books, TV shows and movies about it.

Access to resources, with its finite nature and disparate distribution, plays an essential part in the geopolitical web of power and wealth. It has defined economic growth to such an extent that we have been using them as primary demarcation lines and identifiers in our history, from the stone to bronze and iron age to our current silicon age.

But our resources-driven growth faces a massive existential challenge, with climate change, ecosystem degradation and resource depletion demanding a complete reset. Humanity needs to shift global transportation, manufacturing, construction and energy onto a sustainable path.

Expanding beyond the Kármán line is where we believe transformative future growth and innovation will be found. Recent missions by NASA (OSIRIS-REx & DART) and JAXA (Hayabusa2) have firmly pushed the idea of using space resources from academic research into commercial opportunity.

We believe the Regolith Age, powered by abundant space resources, is an inevitability that we can accelerate.

We value these principles:

  • Diversity of thought. We believe that different perspectives drive better results. We aim to build diverse teams and a diverse company.
  • Ownership, feedback and accountability. Ideas improve through collaboration, discussion and iteration. Decisions don’t follow the same pattern and revert to the mean when made in a group. We aim to have clear ownership, accountability for results and autonomy to deliver.
  • No silos. We build cross-functional teams to be able to deliver on our goals. There are no predefined lanes for people to operate in, information is pushed out across all teams to make sure we benefit from cross-pollination.
  • High talent bar, no a**holes. We optimize for potential and a growth mindset. We value experience, but only when balanced with self-awareness and first principles thinking.
  • Small is beautiful. The best results as well as the best work experience come from a small team of talented people working towards a common goal.

Position: AI&T Engineer - Electrical

Location: Broomfield, CO

Position Type: Full-time

Mission: High Frontier – Build the Ground Support Systems That Power Spacecraft Success

At Karman+, we’re building spacecraft systems that will take us beyond Earth orbit. For the High Frontier mission, we need a hands-on electrical AI&T engineer to design, build, and maintain the electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) critical to spacecraft assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) operations. This is a key role for an engineer who enjoys building hardware, owning systems end-to-end, and troubleshooting in high-paced environments.

What it takes to be successful in this role:

As an electrical AI&T engineer, you’ll take technical ownership of the electrical support infrastructure that powers our test campaigns. You’ll design and maintain systems for power, data, simulation, and control, ensuring the smooth operation of spacecraft testing. This is a hands-on, hardware-focused role—perfect for engineers who like to move fast, build iteratively, and solve problems on the bench.

This is an individual contributor role focused on technical ownership. The individual will be very hands-on, focused on building test systems from the ground up, with opportunities to influence spacecraft-level design and testing strategy. You’ll collaborate with other teams across avionics, software, and test operations while driving decisions on make vs. buy and implementing standard operating procedures for ground systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of EGSE systems to support AI&T and FlatSat/Hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) environments
  • Design and build EGSE for:
    • Ground power systems
    • Ground data interfaces (CAN, Ethernet, RS-XXX)
    • Electrical load simulation and inhibit control
    • Solar array power simulation
    • RF test and calibration support
  • Drive hands-on integration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of EGSE
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for EGSE use
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure EGSE integrates seamlessly with spacecraft systems
  • Work with software teams to integrate EGSE controls into ground software architecture
  • Own make/buy decisions and support component procurement
  • Review and provide input to spacecraft electrical architecture
  • Ensure EGSE is designed to accommodate current and future missions, have foresight to overdesign where logical
  • Design and build EGSE harnessing for day-to-day AI&T operations and non-standard configurations (harnessing to accommodate chamber bulkheads during vehicle thermal vacuum testing)
  • Support spacecraft powered testing, including development and execution of test procedures
  • Support HITL testing, including development and execution of test procedures

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience owning EGSE design and operation for spacecraft or aerospace test programs
  • Strong hands-on experience with powered spacecraft testing and HITL/FlatSat environments
  • Familiarity with spacecraft power distribution, avionics, and networking protocols
  • Working knowledge of test scripting (Python, Bash, lua, or similar)
  • Proficiency with tools such as Altium, SolidWorks, Linux, and data bus analyzers
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, iterative development environment
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineer, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of direct experience supporting spacecraft development, test, or flight programs

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience with spacecraft RF systems and RF testing
  • Previous exposure to solar array simulators and power system testing
  • Experience building hardware for HITL or FlatSat environments
  • Familiarity with ground software development (Python, C) for test automation and tool development

Requirements

  • Foundational experience in EGSE design and operation for spacecraft or aerospace test programs.
  • BS or MS in engineering, aerospace engineering, or related technical field.
