The Environmental Engineering and Consulting team delivers solutions for complex environmental challenges using our regulatory expertise and implementing practical and cost-effective compliance management processes and programs. We address our clients' biggest concerns around permitting, ecoservices, assessment, and remediation.

The Senior Engineer, Geologist or Scientist will work on the remediation project teams. This position will apply theory and principles of environmental engineering to real-world situations involving environmental site assessments, hydrogeologic assessments, chemical transport and fate evaluation, remedial technologies evaluation, and other related scientific and engineering endeavors. This person is an experienced Project Manager and is responsible for working with a project team to manage risk, meet project profitability goals, and manage both the internal team performance and client expectations.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

You will work on a variety of complex project sites throughout the US with primary focus in southeast. You will gain experience with various state and federal governing regulation, with the opportunity to advance your knowledge base with cross-training amongst the multitude of science and engineering disciplines represented by Montrose senior staff. Key responsibilities for the position include the following:

  • Perform multi-media site assessment sampling and field oversight of drillers or other subcontractors. This includes planning for the field events and preparing cost estimates

  • Analyze data using advanced techniques, including statistical evaluation, database development and manipulation, and preparing GIS and 3-dimensional maps and models

  • Evaluate remedial technologies, including comparative analyses; evaluate human health and ecological risk; develop concept-level remedial design plans; and evaluate chemical transport and fate in the environment

  • Ability to establish and maintain long-term working relationships with clients

  • Oversee proposals and business development activities.

  • Lead and mentor junior staff members and work in collaborative team situations to solve problems and advance projects.

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards and project goals.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Master's degree in engineering or environmental-Related Science (Geology) from an accredited four-year college or university

  • Minimum 7 years of professional consulting experience, or combination of consulting and other relevant professional environmental experience.

  • Experience performing environmental collection, monitoring, sampling, testing and basic evaluation

  • Possess or plan to possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Professional Geologist (PG) license

  • Strong communication, problem solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment where you handle multiple project assignments and meet strict deadlines

  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel - ability to mobilize to a site with little notice may be occasionally needed

  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record

  • Complete and maintain HAZWOPER certification with the 40-hour HAZWOPER environmental health and safety class, and annual 8-hour refresher classes

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and Microsoft Access are a plus

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

  • Office working conditions are in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. The conditions during field work will vary and may include loud noises, exposure to the elements/weather, exposure to hazardous substances, and lifting (overhead, waist level) from the ground of supplies and materials (such as monitoring equipment and tools) up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. The work will involve some bending, standing and walking.

Travel

  • The position will involve travel, as needed and dictated by project work. Most travel is expected to be in the form of daytrips or week trips to client sites. Estimated travel away from home is
