Job Summary
Responsible for the overall activities of the Maintenance and Engineering departments. Perform engineering and cost estimating for capital appropriation requests to maintain plant operations. Responsible for the overall coordination of the Engineering and Maintenance departments' activities needed to maintain and improve the operations of the Manistee facility including associated buildings and grounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe working environment. Understand, follow and support company policies, procedures, (i.e. lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space, etc.) in addition to corporate and local safety initiatives. Assume responsibility for risk assessment. Manage and encourage all employees and contractors to be proactive in the area of safety and food safety, including anticipating unsafe behaviors, conditions and unusual circumstances.
- Prepare projects and supervise the installation of assigned projects. This includes reporting on project approval and assuring the completion of the project functions as intended.
- Responsible for the overall operations of maintenance, buildings, grounds and yard departments.
- Assist the production departments as requested, maintain equipment for operational efficiency, expedite equipment repairs, increase plant efficiency, and offer training to operational personnel, as identified.
- Ensure that operating personnel training is conducted through the Maintenance Supervisors, OJT and Apprentice Program.
- Provide supervision and technical expertise on major machinery, equipment and building break downs, overhauls and maintenance.
- Monitor and log critical records for the computerized maintenance management system.
- Available as required to direct maintenance work efforts in the absence of Supervisors.
- Administer Collective Bargaining Agreement and plant policies.
- Accept special assignments, responsibilities and duties as they arise.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Food Safety Program requirements in the facility through the completion of work by the maintenance department, contractor and capital and expense projects and other improvements. Inform the General Manager and QC Manager of any issues, understanding the importance of product quality, intergrity, safety, and legality.
- Is familiar with the Environmental Management System policy, procedures or work instructions and understands the potential consequences of departure from the requirement. Notify management of any observed potential compliance issues or nonconformities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, chemical, or electrical. Proven ability to apply engineering principles to concrete problems and opportunities. Ability to plan and carry out project assignments.
- Three to five years of Manufacturing supervisory experience.
- SAP and AutoCAD experience.
- A self-starter who is capable of managing and performing multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a problem-solving team.
- Recognize and respect diverse perspectives expressed by team members, peers, or superiors.
- Above average written and oral communication skills.
- Strong technical skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
Work Environment
The work environment consists of both an office and production environment with variations in temperature and noise levels. Proper PPE is required when working in the production environment.
