Position Duties

The History Department at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in American history. The successful applicant will teach four undergraduate courses a semester (ordinarily two preparations), including US since Reconstruction in the fall, another 200-level US history course in the spring, and HS 100 Encountering the Past in both semesters. Taken by all Loyola students as part of the Core Curriculum, HS 100 Encountering the Past uses the perspective of a single historical topic chosen by the instructor to introduce students to the field of history and its importance for understanding the present. We seek candidates who display a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, including an appreciation of or engagement in high impact practices in History. Salary range is 50,000 to 51,500. The appointment will begin on August 25, 2025.

Ph.D. in hand and teaching experience preferred but not required. Applicants must submit online a cover letter, curriculum vitae and teaching evaluations (if available). After initial review, candidates will be required to submit two letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin on May 27st.
