Job Description
This is a temporary position running from June through August 22 2025. The position is 30 hours a week.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Serves food in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), WAC, or other applicable federal, state, and local regulations guidelines. Provides quality food service to children and employee using accepted menu planning, purchasing, food production, and food service principals. The Valle Lindo Summer Food Service Specialist plays a key role in supporting food access and youth engagement during the summer months. This temporary, community-based position is responsible for serving breakfast and lunch to children and youth ages 1–18, in partnership with Walla Walla Public Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serve breakfast and lunch to children and youth ages 1–18 in partnership with Walla Walla Public Schools; follow all protocols and training provided by the school district.
- Ensure accurate meal counts are tracked and reported according to program requirements.
- Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and fun environment for children and families during meal times.
- Provide weekly enrichment activities for children that support healthy habits and reduce summer learning loss—using the Food & Fun After School curriculum and other low-cost or donated materials.
- Support outreach efforts to encourage participation in summer meal services and activities
- Collaborate with the on-site Family Navigator and other staff to connect families to additional programs and services.
- Help build foot traffic and awareness for the Family Resource Center by positively engaging with the Valle Lindo community.
- Ensure children consume meals on-site in compliance with program rules.
- Attend required training provided by the school district or internal staff regarding meal service procedures and safety guidelines.
- Food Safety: Food will be maintained at safe temperatures during preparation, transportation, service, and storage to meet Food Safety guideline in DOH
- Food Service: Adequate servings in family-style meal service will be provided to ensure that each child will receive portions to meet CACFP meal pattern Appropriate utensils will be used to serve standardized portions of pre-prepared menu items to meet CACFP meal pattern requirements
- Sanitation and Safety: A routine cleaning schedule will be established that complies with requirements as specified under local, state, and federal laws/regulations. Good personal hygiene and grooming will be demonstrated included dress, appearance and personal Proper hand-washing procedures will be utilized. Safe and sanitary conditions will be maintained in the storage, preparation, and service of food. Refrigerator, freezer, and dry storage areas will be inspected regularly to maintain safe and sanitary food and supply storage. Any and all safety hazards will be reported to the center management.
- Other Duties as Assigned: The Valle Lindo Summer food service specialist will perform other duties as assigned by center management when appropriate and needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- May require handling of objects that can weigh up to 50
- Stand for long periods of time

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children and youth from culturally diverse low-income populations
- Fluency in Spanish to effectively engage with children and families in the Valle Lindo community
- Proof of physical exam (updated every three years), including a one step Mantoux TB skin test prior to start of For those who have previously tested positive, documented proof of treatment from a doctor or a negative chest x-ray must be provided
- Successful completion of a drivers check if position requires driving on a regular basis (at least three times per week) or drives clients. Must not have more than two driving incidents within the last three years
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Food Handler’s Permit
- First Aid and CPR certification
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

The target starting pay for this position is $19.341 - $21.033 DOE, typically within the first half of the range. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.
