Job Title Senior Vice President of Accounting

Supervisor Chief Executive Officer

 FLSA Status Exempt/Salaried

Purpose

The SVP of Accounting is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the Company in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and other regulatory and advisory organizations and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Management, or Finance, and 8-10 years of experience or training.

• Prior experience with YARDI senior living software suite strongly preferred.

• Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.

• Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the senior housing industry.

• Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.

• Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems.

• Proven effectiveness leading professionals in accounting.

• Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment.

• Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while possessing strong attention to detail to maintain a high level of accuracy.

• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

• Ability to work independently, as well as with others in a deadline driven environment.

 Areas of Responsibility

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance. • Participate in the development of the organization's plans and programs as a strategic partner.

• Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies/locations and regulatory action. Oversee the transition of new communities into CSL’s management systems to include the review of due diligence materials provided, transition schedule for all financial responsibilities, Yardi integration, bank accounts, etc.

• Maintain credibility for the accounting department by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist the CEO/President, and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities.

• Ensure that information is prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

• Assure that accurate, timely and useful financial information is provided to all communities and monitor actual variances from the budget keeping owners, senior management and community EDs apprised of all significant financial developments.

• Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.

• Interface with outside audit firms, banks and lenders, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies and collection agencies. 

• Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline. 

• Continual improvement of the budget model and budgeting process through education of the accounting department, RVPs and EDs on financial issues impacting the communities.

• Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.

• Maintain a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.

• Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the company may enter.

• Evaluate the accounting department structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals. 

• Manage the productivity for the entire accounting department and conduct regular meetings with department managers.

• Prepare quarterly debt covenant calculations and reports for mortgage lenders.

• Review projections for acquisition opportunities brought to leadership for consideration. Make recommendations regarding assumptions used in pro-formas and participate in discussions regarding financial feasibility.
