Job Summary:
Jackson Lewis seeks a Public Relations Specialist to drive innovative communications and brand engagement in support of its public relations and social media strategies. Reporting to the Public Relations Manager, the Public Relations Specialist is crucial in promoting the firm’s initiatives, culture and successes through engaging and innovative public relations and social media campaigns.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and communications skills, a keen understanding of media dynamics, and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and influencers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and implement external communications plans promoting the firm’s services, achievements and values.
- Write and edit content for public relations efforts, including press releases, media pitches, announcements, briefing materials, website updates and social media posts, ensuring consistency with the firm’s brand and editorial guidelines.
- Coordinate attorney interviews with reporters, including preparing briefing materials and facilitating follow-up.
- Create and maintain press lists for media outreach and story pitches.
- Monitor, analyze, and compile media coverage, preparing and distributing related reports to attorneys and leadership.
- Identify and cultivate media opportunities to position attorneys as thought leaders through interviews, bylined articles and speaking engagements, and manage article placement, reprint purchasing and distribution processes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts, journalists, industry influencers and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with executing the firm’s social media strategy, including developing and posting content on LinkedIn, X and Facebook to promote firm news, thought leadership, and initiatives.
- Ideate and produce engaging multimedia content such as videos, graphics, animations and testimonial videos in collaboration with the in-house creative team.
- Track and analyze performance metrics for media mentions, social media and marketing initiatives; produce monthly analytics reports to measure efficacy and identify opportunities to increase SEO, engagement and reach.
- Assist with crisis communications, including drafting responses to media inquiries and updating communication plans.
- Create and deliver training materials for attorneys on external communication best practices.
- Support external public relations agencies with special projects as needed.
- Attend industry webinars and research best practices to provide strategic insight into new initiatives.
Skills and Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required in communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, English or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience managing external and digital communications for a professional services firm or corporate environment, preferably in the legal or B2B sector.
- An eye for design and a strong understanding of social media platforms and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Sprout Social or native analytics), combined with the ability to master new tools quickly.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications including SharePoint and Teams; experience with Cision, Meltwater, Smartsheet, Canva and Camtasia preferred.
- Superior writing, grammar, editing and proofreading skills with expertise in Associated Press writing style; ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format and adapt communication style and tone to relevant audiences.
- Ability to work independently with a positive, entrepreneurial, problem-solving attitude; ability to meet competing deadlines and shift priorities as needed.
- Impeccable attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Confident, dynamic personality and a willingness to build relationships and collaborate across the broader business services teams.
- Comfortable working in a fast-changing environment and navigating ambiguity with confidence and creativity.
For Illinois, the expected salary range for this position is between $38.50- and $42.80. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
For Colorado, the expected salary range for this position is between $38.30- and $42.50. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
